digital illustrations with the”the goddess series.”
as a creative person my initiation into visual media was with traditional drawing and painting. years later, as digital illustration and new media came into my sphere, it excited me and i dove deep to explore and learn to with the exciting new possibilities it offered. in this series i explore some themes of the feminine principle as expressed through divine energy.
my influences for this series are wide and varied. some influences include starhawk, the writing of joseph campbell as well as the artist susan seddon boullet. this series is also was inspired from my own life experiences.
A goddess is a female deity in polytheistic religions. Goddesses most often have feminine characteristics that are apotheosize in their pure form. However, in some cases goddesses may embody neutral forms personifying both male and female characteristics (like Sophia), or they may even exhibit traits that are traditionally associated with the male gender (for example, Artemis). Goddesses have been especially linked with virtues such as beauty, love, motherhood and fertility (Mother-goddess cult in prehistoric times), but because of their flexibility in gender portrayal, they have also been associated with ideas such as war, creation, and death.
the symbolism of the goddess is not a parallel structure to the symbolism of god the father. the goddess does not rule the world. she is the world. manifest in each of us, she can be known internally by every indivdual, in all her magnificent diversity.
